Grieving Children are Focus of Two NYS Tribute Grants

The NYS Tribute Foundation is proud to announce grant awards to bolster a support program for grieving families and to assist bereavement services aimed at dozens of inner-city school children.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors approved two $5,000 grants, both expected to help add a little solace to individuals facing great emotional pain.

The Visiting Nurse Service of NY Hospice and Palliative Care’s HEAL (Happiness, Even After Loss) Program offers a gathering site and activities for grieving family members.

This provides an opportunity for bereaved families with children and teens to come together in a healing, supportive environment.

The program includes counseling as well as recreational therapies.

Tribute’s Board of Directors also voted to award a $5,000 grant to The Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services Loss and Bereavement Program.

This program helps address the critical lack of trauma-informed bereavement services for children and adolescents in New York City.

Currently the program is in eight New York City Public and Charter schools, serving 60 youth.

Not only do they counsel on bereavement caused by death but also bereavement caused by the removal of a caretaker in their lives due to incarceration, military leave and child removal.

This grant will enable this program to add three new support groups, providing 25 additional children the opportunity to bond with others experiencing a similar loss and learn essential coping skills needed to stabilize their behavior and ultimately, promote the healing process.

New York State Tribute Foundation is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Individual contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
